Château Lascombes

"The estate (Lascombes) has old vines and very good grapes on a land of value. Its wines are renowned for their quality, so superior that they can compete with the Château Margaux. "Extract from the Newspaper, “the Producer”, 4th April of 1838. It is thus understandable that the château Lascombes was ranked as 2nd grand cru in 1855. Since 2001 this château has belonged to a private American estate investments and advisory firm, Colony Capital, which has undertaken many investments in order to made of the château Lascombes, one of the best modern wine of Margaux. The winery and harvests have been modernized, and a complete soil survey of the 84 hectares of the château Lascombes was conducted. This study highlights the typicality of each plot to ensure that the most suitable grape was planted on it. So, all the parcels of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and petit verdot have been optimized. Located in the commune of Margaux, the château has today the advices of the famous consultant, Michel Rolland. All is done to restore this cru classé Margaux at its old glory. A second wine, also made from a rigorous selection process, is produced at the château, Le Chevalier de Lascombes, name given in honor of the oldest known owner, the Chevalier Antoine de Lascombes.
